The Art of Meditation

: By Dr. Neeraj Mehta

The Upanishads are the first Hindu texts that discuss meditation as a spiritual activity and religious practice. Meditation is mentioned in the Upanishads as a way of overcoming ignorance, obtaining understanding, and achieving union with the Absolute.

The art of meditation is a technique that includes techniques for training the mind’s attention and awareness as well as emotional balance, a state in which the individual uses an artifice – such as mindfulness, or the use of focused thought on a specific topic, object, or activity – to reach a balanced emotional state.

Kirtan Kriya is a meditation technique that combines a mantra or chanting with a repetitive movement of the finger to concentrate your mind. It enhances performance in neuropsychological tests for individuals with aging-related memory decline, according to the research.

According to studies, meditation may help people learn to concentrate their attention, regulate their emotions and impulses, and get a better understanding of the causes of their issues.

Transcendental meditation was associated with lower levels of stress, psychological distress, alcohol cravings, and alcohol use in 60 people receiving treatment for alcohol use disorder after three months of practice.

Meditation may also help with the control of food cravings. According to a review of 14 studies, mindfulness meditation helped participants reduce emotional and binge eating.

Meditation allows us to focus on the present moment without being distracted by life’s distractions. It helps us reach our subconscious minds while also keeping us relaxed. Meditation rejuvenates you and enables you to overcome any bad effects you may be feeling.

MEDITATION FOR BEGINNERS: EASY MEDITATION

-Sit or lie down in a comfortable posture and concentrate on your breathing.

-For a minute, close your eyes and think about something enjoyable to do with your time.

-Don’t try to control your breathing; instead, just let it happen.

It is critical for successful meditation to maintain awareness of one’s breath and bodily movement with each inhale and expiration. It’s a good idea to pay attention to how your body moves when you’re breathing.

-Examine your chest, shoulders, rib cage, and belly button to see how much energy you still have. Your thoughts will gradually clear away as you focus on your breathing without trying to control its pace or intensity. Bring your focus back to your breathing whenever your thoughts begin to stray.

-Increase the duration of your meditation sessions by starting with two to three minutes at a time and gradually increasing the time.

RECAP “Meditation boosts concentration and focus, boosts self-awareness and self-esteem, reduces stress and anxiety, and enhances mental health compassion. Meditation can enhance your pain tolerance and help you fight substance abuse, both of which are good for your physical health.” – By Neeraj Mehta
